Colin Slater

We are delighted to welcome Colin to our gallery. He was born in Peterborough in 1955 and now lives in Polebrook nearby. Colin studied fine art at Lanchester Polytechnic in Coventry and has held many solo exhibitions and participated in mixed events throughout the UK.

He is greatly influenced by the Dutch landscape artist Ruisdael, but is also indebted to Turner and the great Japanese print maker, Hiroshige.

Colin walks the countryside a great deal making sketches and recording his emotional sensations. Paintings are made in the studio from these notes which, in his own words, 'transport me back in time and place as can a scent or a piece of music'. He also feels his work is often as much an exploration of his own state of mind, as it is about a particular place itself.
