Gillian Foster
Gillian Foster trained as a botanical artist at The English Gardening School, Chelsea Physic Garden, London and graduated with distinction. Two of her paintings have been selected for inclusion in the Highgrove Florilegium presently being created under the aegis of the Prince of Wales Charitable foundation to celebrate and record in a permanent way the flora in the garden at Highgrove. The American Society of Botanical Artists has chosen Gillian's 'Black Parrot' tulip watercolour to promote the current exhibition of these works at the New York School of Interior Design. She is a Royal Horticultural Society medallist and exhibits in London and Cape Town. Her work is held in the permanent collection of the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, Pittsburg, U.S.A. and by private collectors in Europe, South Africa and the U.S.A.
Her keen interest in plants extends from those in her Northamptonshire garden to the abundant flora of the Cape, South Africa. Combining careful observation of plants and their habit with the technical and artistic skills required, she is able to capture both botanical accuracy and beauty.
