Intensive One Day Picture Framing Courses

This course in traditional bespoke picture framing is getting great reviews. Whether you just want to frame your own artwork or wish to take up framing professionally, you'll find it an excellent introduction to a wonderful craft. You will be taught by Chris and Val Pendleton, who between them have 70 years' experience in the trade. Both are artists. Chris has a BA (Hons) in History of Art and is a Fine Art Trade Guild Commended Framer (GCF) and has written many articles on framing. Val earned her BA (Hons) in Textile Design at the Hornsey College of Art.

 

Learn how to:

  • Cut picture frame moulding with a traditional Morso guillotine

  • Join frames with a pneumatic powered underpinner, or hand vice if preferred

  • Design and cut mounts with a traditional worktop mount cutter

  • Cut glass and backing efficiently and safely 

  • Assemble and finish pictures to a professional standard

  • Choose mounts and mouldings for pictures based on aesthetics & colour theory 

  • Price picture framing and understand the basics of running a framing studio

Limited to just two trainees per course to guarantee personal attention

Do I need any framing experience?

No experience necessary, we will tailor the course to match your levels of expertise.

What do I need to bring?

Bring an artwork or photograph on paper, no larger than A4 in size. You will mount and frame it to professional standard and be able to take it home. 

Wear casual clothes (no loose sleeves) and closed-toe, flat, comfortable shoes. Long hair should be tied back. Remember to bring reading glasses if needed.

Plentiful tea and/or coffee will be provided and a sandwich if required for our brief lunch time break.
